Your news. Your feed.
Your algorithm.
Shoebill Feed is a personal news reader you run yourself. Point it at the sources you already trust, and let it quietly learn what matters to you — with no ads, no tracking, and nobody selling your attention.
What is Shoebill Feed?
Shoebill Feed is a free, open-source news reader that lives on a server you control — your own computer, a home server, or a small cloud instance. Instead of showing you whatever a distant company has decided will keep you scrolling, it collects news only from the sources you choose, and organizes it around what you actually care about. Nobody but you ever sees what you read.
Shoebill Feed doesn't try to keep you inside the app, either. It summarizes and sorts so you can quickly tell what's worth your time — then you read the actual story where it was published, same as you always have.
How it works
No setup wizards to fight, no black boxes — just a feed that gets better the more you use it.
Add the sources you trust
Point Shoebill Feed at the news sites, subreddits, Mastodon accounts, newsletters, and other places you already follow. You decide what's in your feed — nobody curates it for you.
Get the gist in seconds
New articles arrive already summarized, so you can tell at a glance whether something is worth opening — then read the full story on the original site, same as always.
Similar stories, grouped
When several outlets cover the same event, Shoebill Feed quietly groups them into one card and boils it down to the common ground, instead of showing you the same headline five times.
It learns by your real choices. Not from your unconscious.
A quick 👍 or 👎 is all it takes. Over time, your feed reorganizes itself around what you actually read and like — using nothing but your own feedback.
What your feed looks like
A real walkthrough of the app — no staged screenshots. Every card links straight back to the original article.
Why it feels different
Most feeds are built to hold your attention for someone else's benefit. Shoebill Feed only works for you.
No attention-chasing algorithm
Typical feeds are tuned to keep you scrolling so they can sell your attention to advertisers. Shoebill Feed has nothing to sell — it only ever optimizes for what you told it you like.
No hidden agenda, either
It's not only about ad revenue. Many platforms also quietly boost or bury stories to suit their owner's business or political interests. Shoebill Feed has no interests of its own to push — it only ever follows the feedback you give it.
No ads, no tracking
There's no hidden analytics pixel, no profile being built about you, and nothing being sold to data brokers. What you read stays on your own server.
You choose the sources
No mysterious 'trending' section deciding what's important for you. If it's not a source you picked, it's not in your feed.
Nothing hidden about how it's sorted
Open Settings and see exactly how much weight each topic carries and why — every mute, boost, and learned preference is visible and yours to adjust. Your feed order is never a mystery.
Room for the small voices too
Independent blogs, niche newsletters, and small Telegram channels get the exact same treatment as the big outlets — because you're the one who decided they matter.
Fully open source
Every line of code is public. You can inspect exactly what it does, run it forever without a subscription, and nobody can take it away or change the rules on you.
A different set of priorities
A typical news app
- Decides what you see based on what keeps you scrolling longest
- May quietly favor content that suits its owner's business or political interests
- Shows ads and sells your reading habits to advertisers
- Curates a mysterious 'trending' feed for everyone
- Sorts your feed by a hidden formula you can't see or adjust
- Runs on someone else's servers, under someone else's rules
- Closed source — you can't see what it actually does
Shoebill Feed
- Ranks stories only by the feedback you give it
- Has no owner's agenda to push — ever
- No ads, ever — there's no business model that needs them
- Only shows the sources you deliberately chose
- Shows every weight and lets you adjust it in Settings, in plain sight
- Runs on your own server, under your own rules
- Open source — read every line, change anything you want
